Abstract :

ABSTRACT Risk Assessment is an attempt to quantify the risk and determine whether the risk is acceptable or not. Sometimes welding should be done in confined spaces such as tanks, pressure vessels and so on. The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk assessment at the confined space welding work on the ship building in the PT Dock and Shipping Surabaya to see the danger, risk, control risk and residual risk. This observational design study with cross sectional approach. Methods of collecting data from primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from field observation and interviews. While the secondary data were obtained from the data recorded in the company. Result of research got the highest danger is at the welding process in confined spaces. Existing risk control who has made was the substitution, engineering control, administrative and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Based on the risk assessment has been conducted found that overall, the risk of danger to the purely there were 39 high-risk category and 4 hazard with medium risk. At the residual risk, there are 4 high risk categories, 31 medium risk categories, 8 low risk categories. It can be concluded, that the control which is good enough but the accident that occurred due to unsafe behavior of workers. There needs to be strict monitoring from the HSE to control implementation in the field. In addition, it is necessary to Making Job Safety Analysis on the job that has a high risk and socialized to every employee.   Keywords: confined space, risk assessment, welding
